I Told You, You're Mine

By: Heather C. Adams

“Yeah, we were worried about you when she left for college these last four years. And then you got with Liza.” He throws his hand through his hair too letting out a sigh, “I knew that one wasn’t going to work, but you were drowning without Avery man. You needed a life raft…so I let it play out.

He smiles again, “And then Avery was at the funeral and here again when we came the next week, and we assumed you two finally came to your senses and got together.”

“Holy shit bro. I’m in shock,” I chuckle so relieved.

Liza.

“Speaking of Liza though…” I start, “she’s saying we slept together when she brought me home from the charity. And I even think Liza text Avery as me that night, because Avery’s been mad at me ever since.”

He lets out a loud laugh and it sets me back for a minute as my eyebrows lift in annoyance. This is no laughing matter.

He can see my annoyance and counters, “no man…I’m laughing because there’s no way that happened.”

“How do you know?”

“Dude she just had an ablation…I took her to the damn thing the Friday before the function. I’m pretty damn sure she wasn’t cleared or in any shape to be doing anything of that nature.

I don’t know what the hell an ablation is but it clearly sounds like something of the female nature and one that would have kept her from doing the deed with me.

Relief surges through my body.

I fucking knew it! I knew I wouldn’t have done something like that to Avery!

“Holy shit, thank fucking God!” I rub my hand roughly over my face.

Archer leans up on his knees, “she really tried to pull one over on you like that man?”

I nod and his jaw clenches.

“It’s not just that,” I pause for a moment, “when we had that party a couple of weeks ago, she walked in on us…you know…the next morning and was pretty nasty to Avery. She’s been a bit-“ I catch my words as to not curse her in front of her own brother. “It’s just she’s starting to cause some real problems between Avery and me. She’s been after me harder than ever since Avery’s been back around and I remember her being nasty to Avery in high school but she’s really crossing some lines this time-“

“Say no more man,” he interrupts me and jerks himself up. His leg is tapping and I can see his anger.

I stand up to meet him putting my hands back in my pockets, “I’ve tried to handle her, it doesn’t work. And I’m sorry to have to come to you like this but I needed advice and didn’t know where else to go.”

He steps over to me patting me on back, “don’t you worry, I’ll handle my sister. If she doesn’t listen to me, she’ll listen to dad,” he starts to exit the living room.

“Well, I’ve got her coming over at six today to talk…” I follow him.

I kind of feel like a little bitch sending Liza’s brother to handle her but honestly, I can’t think of anything other than seeing my woman, and I’m tired as hell of Liza’s drama. This new act of trying to convince me that I slept with her was at an all-time low. She knows I’m with Avery and it was a pure assault on her.

He stops and looks at his wrist, “still got a couple of hours.” He pulls his phone out of his pocket, “let me see where she’s at.”

I see him pull up the Life360 app, “You track your sister man?” I chuckle a little.

I guess there’s something in the water around here…we’re all a little possessive.

“Yeah dad and I keep an eye on her,” he taps the screen making it enlarge, “She’s still at home. I’ll be handling this,” he clenches his jaw again.

I follow him to the door and he stops and turns to me one more time and lets out a hefty sigh, “this is the last thing you need with your dad gone and all. Don’t worry,” he pats me on the shoulder. “You won’t be bothered by her anymore.”

I don’t know exactly what that means or entails, but I could give two shits right now. All I want to do is be with my baby.

“Go get your girl buddy,” he says as he shuts the door.
